Am I eligible for Biddenham Resident’s rate?
Yes, if you live in the ward of Biddenham (as given by Bedford Borough Council). People who live outside the ward of Biddenham may only hire the Hall for children’s birthday parties.
Can I “hold” date?
No, you must pay for a date when you book. If you cancel 6 weeks before we will return the full amount to you.
Do I have to pay for a 2 hour session if my event is shorter?
Yes. The hall can be hired for a minimum of 2 hours.
What time does my evening party have to end?
On Saturday evening you must be cleared up by midnight. The hall is only available to hire on Saturday evenings for adult e.g. birthday/wedding parties to residents of Biddenham ward only.
When Sunday evening parties are possible, you must be finished and cleared up by 10pm.
What size is the Hall and how many people can it accommodate?
The maximum occupancy of the hall is 80 people (i.e. including guests as well as caterers, entertainers and organisers of the event). The main hall is 12.8m x 6.3m, the annex is 5m x 5m, and the mezzanine area is 5m x 6m.
What’s in the hall?
There are 13 large tables (180 x 76cm), 8 small tables (90 x 76cm), 120 chairs.
A public address system, screen, bluetooth and projector are in the hall.
What is in the kitchen?
There are 100 white dinner plates, bowls, side plates and cutlery. There are 80 cups and saucers. There are 12 bread baskets, water jugs and large serving bowls.
There are 2 hobs, one induction and one infrared, and an electric oven. There is a large warming oven, a microwave oven, a commercial dishwasher, refrigerator and small freezer.
There is a 10 litre urn, 2 kettles and a filter coffee machine.
What’s in the bar?
There are 2 fridges, 100 glasses each of wine, hiball and flute.
What can I put in the recycling bins?
Please put in all dry paper, plastics and cans. No bin liner required. Please take any glass away with you to your local recycling point.
Is there room for a bouncy castle?
Yes. The hall height is approx 4m and it is just over 2.5m to the bottom of the existing lights. Please see the photos on the gallery on the website to see the position of the lights.
During August 2024, the hall is being improved and the existing lights are being removed and replaced with electric heaters. The maximum height for bouncy castles will be 3.3m tall once the heaters have been installed.
A bouncy castle must not be installed so that it blocks a fire exit.
Note in the Conditions of Hire, point 17 it states: You shall ensure that all safety instructions given by the supplier of the bouncy castle are complied with and that the supplier has adequate insurance cover. Biddenham Village Hall has no insurance cover for Hirers using bouncy castles.
Are parties for teenagers allowed?
No, parties for 12 – 25 year olds are not allowed, but family parties are.
Evening parties may only be booked on Saturdays and bookings are restricted to residents of Biddenham ward. Parties are not allowed on other evenings.
Is there a sound limiter?
Yes. Electricity to the power points will be cut if music is played very loudly. This is necessary as the neighbours are so close to the hall.
Do I need an alcohol licence?
You will need a licence if you sell alcohol or if alcohol is included in the price of a ticket for an event. You do not need a licence if you give your guests alcohol.
Some village organisations may be able to obtain a licence from the Village Hall Committee, but please ask the Booking Officer via “contact us” first.
